This is the teamsnap page for the Los Gatos Spirit, a competitive girl's soccer team that plays both thru the CYSA-N affiliated Los Gatos United Soccer League, as well as the US Club-affiliated Los Gatos Futbol Club.
Our team is for girl's with birthdays from 8/1/2000 thru 7/31/2001, although younger players are eligible. We typically practice twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays. Our practices are open and we are always interested in premier-level players who may be looking for a team.
Trouts for 2013 are currently scheduled for Sat/Sun, Feb 2nd and 3rd in Los Gatos.
Our coaches are:
Head coach: Dale Greenley (dalegreenley@yahoo.com). Dale is D-licensed coach. He has been coaching for almost 30 years from younger boy's and girl's recreational teams to premier-level boy's and girl's competitive youth teams. He has also coached CYSA District girl's ODP teams ('94 and '95 girls) and was the lead evaluator for '99 girls in 2012. He also has over 15 years coaching experience with former NCAA Division 1 and 2 women's players.
Asst coach: Grace Matthews. Grace is an E/D-licensed coach. She has been coaching for almost 15 years from recreational to premier-level.
Asst coach: Ronnie Ekelund. Ronnie is a former professional player and coach. He won two MLS Cup trophies with the San Jose Earthquakes, and played for a number of international clubs, including FC Barcelona, English teams Southampton and Manchester City, as well as Danish National and Olympic teams.
GK coach: Louie Mata. Louie will be joining us in 2013. He has played professionally and has been a GK coach at the Jr. College level.

As of Oct 2012, we were ranked as high as 9th in Northern California and 54th nationally.
As of Fall, 2012 -- we are a U12 team and are participating in the following events:
1) Juventus Tournament of Champions (August 2012) -- We played in the top bracket and made the semifinals with a record of 1-1-1. We lost the semifinal 2-0. Our two losses were to the two finalists.
2) San Luis Obispo North vs. South tournament (August 2012) - We played in the top bracket and won 2 and tied 1. Unfortunately, we didn't make the finals as the other team in our bracket was also 2-0-1, but had scored more goals.
3) Capital Soccer Academy (CASA) Adidas Champions Cup (August 2012) - We played in the top bracket and won our 3 preliminary games (4-1, 5-1, and 3-0). We played to a 1-1 draw in the finals before winning the championship in PKs 4-3.
4) CCSL Bay Gold (Fall) - Top 6-team bracket in the age group (65 total teams). Play starts Sept 15th. We played in the equivalent bracket in Fall 2011 and finished tied for 3rd with a 5-4-1 record (having beaten or tied all over 5 teams).
5) NorCal State Cup GU12 (Red)- Fall 2012/Winter 2013 - Seeded #20 out of 128 teams. 1st round matches 9/9, 9/16, and 9/23. This competition concludes in February 2013. We finished 2nd in our 1st round group with one win and two ties and are bracketed in the 2nd round with the top 32 teams in Northern California.

We won our 1st 2nd round game 2-0 and have our final two 2nd round games in late January. We are currently sitting in a tie for 5th out of 32 teams.
6) 2012 Ajax United Fall Invitational, Ripon, CA, Sept 2012
Entered into Premier bracket. Won our first two games 4-1 and 4-1 to be in great shape to make the final, but lost 4-2 in our 3rd game against a good team and the eventual winners, California Odyssey-Red.
7) Placer United Cup (Girls) Sponsored by Adidas, Sacramento, CA, Oct 2012
Accpepted. Have never played in this tournament previously. There are 4 3-team groups in the Premier bracket (the middle bracket between the higher Super and the lower Gold) with the winner of each group moving onto the semifinals.
8) Juventus Coppa d'Oro, Redwood City, Dec 2012
We were seeded in the top (Gold) bracket (5 teams). Our Saturday matches went well, dominating a strong Castro Valley Green team but losing 2-1 on the only two shots we allowd. We beat Stockton Flames FC 2-1 in a very strong match, unluckily giving up an own goal. On Sunday, we lost 4-1 to Manteca United in a game closer than the score indicates, making several bad defensive mistakes that led to 3 goals. We tied River City Rebels 0-0 in our 4th match in a game that didn't have any implications in the tournament.
